So, you need a website?

Good Websites
That Work

I'm Nick, and I'm based in Portland, ME. I've worked independently as a solopreneur for the past decade. In that time, I've designed and developed 82 (and counting) websites. What do they all have in common? They're good websites that work. Whether you're an agency, small business, startup, or something else, I'd love to build yours.

"Nick was the perfect person to turn my amorphous vision into a beautiful and functional website. From the outset, Nick was incredibly receptive and knowledgeable, allowing for my personality to shine through while using his expertise to steer us in the right direction. I loved working with Nick. He was kind, prompt, and just so easy to talk to. Websites are personal! I am so grateful Nick really saw me and my business and created something that reflects the whimsy and playfulness I was hoping for."

Good Websites That Work Tortoise Labs

Websites for Accomplished Agencies

Tortoise Labs

This the website I built for one of my own businesses, Tortoise Labs. This site has been a key part of driving our revenue growth—up by at least 50% for three straight years! At Tortoise Labs, we help first-time founders transform their ideas into successful ventures with real, paying customers. We're proud to collaborate with local institutions like the CEI Women's Business Center, Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center, and Kennebec Valley Community College, working together to create top-notch curriculums and programs that really make a difference.

How does your process work?

We'll have a (free) call to figure out if we're a good fit for each other. You'll complete a question workbook, and then I'll interview you to ask follow-ups. I'll write the first draft of the website copy, you'll review it, and I'll revise it (until you're happy). I'll then design and develop the website, you'll review it, and I'll revise it (also until you're happy). Once we're done, I'll hand everything over to you to own.

What is the typical timeline for a website?

A typical project take 6-8 weeks from our first call to completion.

Will I be able to make updates myself?

I primarily use Squarespace, a drag-and-drop editor, to design and develop websites so you can make updates yourself.

Do I get support after the website is live?

Most of my customers make ongoing updates themselves. But, I do offer ongoing support and maintenance as a service.

How much will my website cost?

Websites start at $7,500. We'll figure out exactly what you need for your website, and skip any of the things you don't.

How can I get 50% off my project cost?

I'm an approved vendor of the Maine Technology Institute (MTI)—the largest small business and startup grantor in Maine. MTI is committed to paying 50% of approved projects, and this link will lead you to more information about the program.

I have a question you didn't answer here.
